SOLAR REBATES -
WHAT'S CHANGING IN
MAY 2026
IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING SOLAR, HERE'S A SIMPLE BREAKDOWN OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT REBATES FOR NSW, AND WHAT'S SET TO CHANGE IN MAY THIS YEAR.
CURRENT SOLAR REBATES [available now]
If you install solar panels in NSW, you’re currently eligible for a federal government rebate known as Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).
What this means for you:
-
The rebate comes off the upfront cost of your solar system
-
You don’t need to apply — we handle it for you
The value depends on:
-
The size of your solar system
-
Your location (NSW)
-
The current certificate value of the home
This rebate could be worth several thousand dollars, making solar far more affordable.

CURRENT BATTERY REBATES
Right now, the rebate reduces the upfront cost of installing a home battery. It can cover a significant portion of the battery price and applies whether the battery is installed with a new solar system or added to an already existing system.

SO WHAT’S CHANGING IN MAY 2026?
SOLAR
Solar panel rebates (STCs) are not ending in May, but:
The scheme reduces gradually over time - Installing earlier generally means more rebate than waiting.
Why Installing Before May 2026 Can Save You More Money:
-
Higher battery rebates available now
-
Lower out-of-pocket cost for your system
-
Start saving on power bills sooner
Put simply, the same system installed before May 2026 can cost less than the same system installed after.

BATTERIES
The federal battery rebate is transitionining to a tiered structure, where the incentive amount decreases as battery capacity increases.
If you want to install a battery greater than 14kWh in capacity, then you’ll receive a larger rebate if you can get it installed before 1 May 2026. After this date, the rebate for larger batteries will decrease significantly.
In simple terms:
Larger batteries installed before May 2026 receive a higher rebate - Batteries installed after May 2026 will still receive a rebate, but the amount will be lower. The change mainly affects how much rebate is paid per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery capacity, meaning the overall savings are better if you install earlier.
